Entrance Age Requirements
Board Policy JEBA Early Entrance States:A student is considered six years of age and will be admitted into a public school if his/her sixth birthday occurs on or before September 1. A student whose sixth birthday occurs after that date may be admitted to the first grade if he/she has maintained regular attendance in any grade of a public full-time school duringthe entire school term.
A student will be admitted to kindergarten if his/her fifth birthday occurs on or before September 1, or is a kindergarten student transferring from a public school in another district.
Requests for early entry into Kindergarten or first grade may be made by May 1. A student whose fifth/sixth birthday occurs after September 1, but not later than November 15 and whose needs would best be met in the school program, may be admitted based on an analysis by qualified professional staff of his/her:
1. Cognitive development;
2. Social development;
3. Physical development.
The superintendent shall identify screening processes and instruments which will provide a dependable assessment of the preceding criteria.
Parents will be required to pay the cost of the special testing involved.
