New Teacher Mentor Program
New Teacher Mentor Program
Woodburn School District is committed to ensuring every new educator feels confident, supported, and set up for long-term success. Our New Teacher Mentor Program provides high-quality, job-embedded mentoring designed to help teachers grow professionally, personally, and positively impact student learning. Since great teaching develops through reflection, collaboration, and ongoing support, our mentors are full release, veteran teachers who will support new teachers for their first two years in our district.

Our Approach
Research states that new teachers thrive with support that is personal, consistent, on-going, and developed for the individual needs of the teacher. Mentors will spend a minimum of one hour per week supporting new teachers with classroom management, lesson planning, modeling, and providing specific feedback.
New teachers are given opportunities to learn and collaborate with other new teachers during the New Teacher Seminar, New Teacher Induction, and the Mentor Seminars.

What New Teachers Can Expect
All new teachers receive two years of comprehensive support, including:
- Classroom-embedded mentoring that is personalized, non-evaluative, and growth-oriented
- Instructional planning and curriculum support, including all content areas with a strategic focus on Literacy and Dual Language practices
- Classroom management mentoring, focused on structures, routines, expectations, and behavioral support
- Best Practice Teaching Strategies
- Support in navigating district systems, communication norms, and professional expectations
- Support for Special Education student needs, including compliance, inclusion, interventions, and collaboration
- Guidance with assessments, data use, and culturally responsive practices
- Confidential, emotional support

Our Promise
We look at the whole picture when supporting new educators. Classroom practice matters — but so do confidence, well-being, cultural responsiveness, and community connection.
As mentors, we strive to create an environment where teachers feel successful in all areas. We are proud to welcome educators who value equity, collaboration, and lifelong learning. Woodburn is a vibrant community, and our Mentor Program ensures every new to the profession teacher has the support needed to be successful.
Whether you are a prospective hire exploring our district or a new educator beginning your journey here — we’re excited to work with you here in Woodburn!
