Child Find is a legal requirement that schools find all children who have disabilities and who may be entitled to special education and related services. Child Find covers every child from birth through age 21. The school must locate, evaluate and serve children who have needs in the area of cognitive, motor, social, behavior, speech/ language, hearing, or vision. Students from Kindergarten through age 21 may qualify as a student with a disability in one (or more) of Oregon's twelve eligibility categories. Each student is evaluated using multiple measures by a multidisciplinary team, following a standardized process outlined by the IDEA. If you suspect your child has a disability that is adversely impacting their education, please contact your neighborhood school or contact the Student Services Department at 503-982-4279.
