After spending 17 years in business as a Certified Public Accountant and Consultant I decided to make a career change and become a teacher – – a decision that has challenged me and brought me great joy. As a High School teacher I taught Business classes (Accounting, Web Design,Marketing), Spanish as both a second language and as a native language, and English for English Language Learners (ELLs). I have my Bilingual ESOL endorsement, have taught College Credit Now (partnering with Chemeketa Community College), and Advanced Placement Spanish Language courses.
I have been privileged to previously serve as the Assistant Principal and Athletic Director at French Prairie Middle School. It is my honor to be the Principal of Nellie Muir Elementary, an International Baccalaureate (IB) / bilingual/biliterate (Spanish/English) school in Woodburn, Oregon.
Student Learning is always first. It drives our decisions and perspective – – “what is best for students; how can I help them learn and achieve”. We do this within a bilingual/biliterate and culturally responsive context. We have an amazing staff that leads by example and provides all students with a safe, nurturing environment that allows them to take risks and truly become a contributing citizen for the world.
I wish that I could give each of you a tour of this wonderful school. From our After School Program, to our school garden; from our focus on IB Attitudes and Attributes to our Professional Learning Communities; from our 1:1 technology in 2nd-5th grade to our “Baile Folklórico y Jaranas” – – this is a VERY special place to learn and grow..
There is no place I would rather be.
