Welcome back to school! We love this time of year as students, faculty and staff return with a renewed sense of purpose.
The past year at the Woodburn School District has been one of change and growth. Most recently, we updated our Strategic Plan. This document guides our decision making for the next five years and is a result of input from more than 200 community members, students, parents, guardians, and staff. A copy of the plan in English, Spanish and Russian can be found on our web site at www.woodburnsd.org.
This summer, the Woodburn School Board met for its annual retreat to develop goals to support the Strategic Plan. Their top priority is to get out into the community to share the Plan, as well as create a common understanding, improve communication and cultural competence, and create a sense of unity.
Our bond projects are moving along and many of our schools are seeing improvements as a result of community funding and support. Success High School is complete and we look forward to welcoming you to a ribbon cutting ceremony to see the new facility. Other schools have additional classroom space, new roofs, windows and HVAC systems to improve the environment in which our students learn.
Last year was challenging as we worked to improve safety measures on campus as a result of copycat threats to our schools. Again, our community supported the school district with helpful suggestions as to how we can solve this issue. There is more information about this in our newsletter, and we hope you will participate.
Our students continue to achieve academically because of your support. We have some of the best graduation rates in the state, and last year’s graduating class earned more than $4 million in scholarships for their post- secondary education goals. The programs and services we provide are a direct result of your support of our students, and we thank you.
