On behalf of the Woodburn School District, I would like to congratulate the Class of 2017! We are proud of your accomplishments, and continue to expect great things from you.
Like many school districts, we do more than just educate children. We mentor, encourage and care for them during their time with us. Like a family, we watch them grow into young adults and leave us to make a positive difference in the world.
Our graduates are highly sought after by businesses, colleges and universities. (You can read more about the scholarships they receive to continue their education in this edition.) This is due to our Dual Language program where students graduate proficient in two languages – English, and Spanish or Russian. Our students are the future of the world.
Support from our community – either through taxes, providing internships, or volunteerism – is a huge piece of this equation. Your support of our public schools is an important part of why our students succeed. On behalf of our graduates, we would like to thank you for being a part of their success story.
We continue to make progress on bond-funded projects to add space for students, make major repairs to maintain our schools, and improve security/technology systems. The District Welcome Center is nearly complete; construction has begun on Washington Elementary; and Heritage Elementary and Valor Middle School roofing projects are out to bid—an important step to make progress. The first phase of the High School classroom restoration project—not funded by the bond–is also underway with demolition being the first step. This includes the first phase of the bond-funded fire sprinkler installation project.
