Parents & Community Members:
We wanted to write and let you know of an incident that happened at the HS Campus today.
This morning the Woodburn School District learned that a student had told a classmate that an individual planned a shooting at school. The Woodburn Police Department was called immediately, and the student who made the threat was taken into custody.
After questioning, the police learned that the threat was not credible and there was never any danger to staff and students. Classes at the high school continued as usual, and police remained on campus for the rest of the day to help staff and students feel more secure.
The Woodburn School District takes any threats or acts of violence very seriously. Disciplinary action will be taken according to school district policy.
School shootings are a serious issue in our country, and we have protocols in place if it should happen. We are fortunate this was not the case, and thankful to the Woodburn Police Department for their prompt response.
However, the threat of a possible shooting can cause anxiety for some students. Please take a moment to talk with your child and see how they are feeling in the next few days. If we can be of further assistance, please contact one of our school counselors.
