AIS Students Visit the 26th Annual Oregon Tradeswomen Career Fair
On Friday, May 18th, over 25 AIS girls attended the 26th annual Oregon Tradeswomen Career Fair in Portland. In careers that are traditionally held by men, this fair gives girls the opportunity to learn from tradeswomen and see role models in male-dominated fields. Students participated in activities such as riding a tree-trimmer 50 ft into the air, watching the Tradeswomen Fashion show and listening to the “models” talk about the tools and clothing of their trade, built bird houses, practiced shingling roofs, used heat guns to weld plastic together, tig welded metals, climbed trees with spiked tree-climbing boots, and operated fire hoses.
