WSD Bond Update - September 20, 2018

In May 2015, the Woodburn community approved a $65 million bond. We continue to make progress on bond-funded projects to add space for students, make major repairs to maintain our schools, and improve security/technology systems. These proposed projects are scheduled along a 5-year timeline (2015-2020) for completion.

Success High School

The big news this month is that the new high school building for the Success High School is open! The new school was built adjacent to the Welcome Center/District Office on Meridian Drive. We’ll be celebrating with a Grand Opening on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. We hope you’ll join us for a brief presentation and ribbon-cutting, to be followed by refreshments and self-guided tours. There will also be an opportunity to tour the remodeled Welcome Center/District Office building that is adjacent to the High School.

 Washington Elementary

Construction of a 2-story addition, as well as a gymnasium, and covered play area were completed for the start of the 2018-19 school year. A new kitchen was added in the old gymnasium area, as well as extra parking and a bus lane.  The School District also received a grant that funded seismic upgrades to the existing Washington Elementary (and Lincoln Elementary) buildings.

Bond Projects 2018

This past summer we were able to complete a lot of construction projects at Woodburn schools.  Due to the statewide construction boom, some materials were delayed, which will stretch some projects into the school year.  Our goal from the beginning of the bond construction timeline was to cause as little disruption at possible to the classroom. Staff students, and parents/guardians have been incredibly patient as contractors finalize projects, and we’re so appreciative of their understanding. The start of the school year is always an exciting time and this year has been especially energizing as we can see all the progress that took place over the summer!

Some ongoing projects for the next few months are:

Nellie Muir Elementary

• Replacement of HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) system – The new rooftop mechanical units have been ordered and will be installed this fall

• Project manager will be re-bidding the roof replacement

Lincoln Elementary

• Seismic upgrades to be finalized

French Prairie Middle School

• Replacement of Cafeteria flooring – the existing flooring has been abated; the new flooring  will be installed over Winter Break
