WSD Bond Update - June 28, 2018

In May 2015, the Woodburn community approved a $65 million bond. We continue to make progress on bond-funded projects to add space for students, make major repairs to maintain our schools, and improve security/technology systems. These proposed projects are scheduled along a 5-year timeline (2015-2019) for completion.

Washington Elementary

Construction of a 2-story addition is underway on the Washington Elementary site, which includes underground water lines for fire suppression system; Fire Department access roads; storm water management system; new covered play area; bus turn-around and staff parking; and a new gymnasium building.

In the classroom building, the Acoustic Treatment was recently installed, as well as the sprinkler system. In the multi-purpose room/kitchen, the plumping and electrical has been roughed in, as well as the wood framing completed. And, the kitchen equipment has been ordered. After the interior is finished, the equipment will be installed. On the exterior, the downspouts, canopies and exterior sidewalks have been underway. Next up is the completion of these features.

Over at the new gymnasium, interior lighting, exterior glazing, and the gym floor have progressed. This month the contractors are continuing work on the interior and installation of gym equipment.

With the release of staff and students the contractor has received approval to begin demolition of the remaining areas still needing to be completed. This work includes the demolition of the kitchen and cafeteria space for the transformation into a new school library. The contractor is also working to complete restroom upgrades as well as classroom upgrades within the existing building.

Success High School

A new high school building for the Success High School is underway. It will have a community meeting space included in construction. The Groundbreaking ceremony was held on November 8, 2017. Completion is expected by September 2018 in time for the next school year.

On the campus, a solar array is being installed to provide green energy, as well as educational opportunities. Just recently the equipment pads were constructed to prepare for the installation of the racks that will hold the solar panels.

On the high school building, the exterior masonry wall has been constructed. Inside the building is where a lot of work is taking place now. Interior drywall has been hung, insulation and the fire sprinkler system has been installed. Contractors are working diligently in preparing to complete the interior phases of the project including electrical and mechanical finishes, painting and flooring installations.

Exterior finishes and site utilities are now in full swing as the contractors work to prepare and install hardscape and sidewalks, irrigation systems and place the landscaping around the new high school facility.
