WSD Bond Update - September 8 2017

In May 2015, the Woodburn community approved a $65 million bond. We continue to make progress on bond-funded projects to add space for students, make major repairs to maintain our schools, and improve security/technology systems. These proposed projects are scheduled along a 5-year timeline (2015-2019) for completion.

Rising construction costs

Below is a recent article in this week's Woodburn Independent that addresses challenges posed by rising construction costs. This is probably no surprise to most of you, as you've seen construction cranes once again crowding city skies, or perhaps you have even bid out a home renovation project to find contractors busy and costs higher than just a few years ago!

As construction projects bids are coming in, these cost increases are causing us to look for additional ways save money and in some cases, look to other sources, such as a major maintenance funds, to complete the projects we have planned. This is a normal occurrence for managing large capital projects of this size.

The Bond Advisory Accountability Committee will review options in the next couple of months to reduce costs and bring projects in on budget and will present recommendations to the Woodburn School Board, likely in October. We'll provide updates when the BAAC is nearer to making recommendations. Meetings of the BAAC, and the School Board, are open to the public. Dates and times are posted on our website calendar.
